Up
to 25% of your heat can be lost through the roof. Insulation
in your loft you can help prevent this. This can be done very
easily and quickly by trained professionals, with no mess.
They'll also insulate any pipes in your loft as well as your
loft hatch.
Any queries, do contact
us.
What will the works involve?
The government recommends 250mm of insulation.
Grants for part or all
of the cost are available to all householders from the larger
energy supply companies who are obliged by law to provide
them, and our scheme incorporates these grants. You do not
have to be a customer of an energy supply company to qualify
for a grant from them.
Due to the way the grant funding works it is
cheaper to insulate an empty loft than to top up a loft with
some existing insulation. This is because topping up saves
less energy than insulating an empty loft, and grants are
calculated by energy savings.

How much will it cost?
The amount available depends on the house size
and type, whether you are in receipt of benefits, your main
fuel type, and how much insulation is already installed.
The price is currently:
- free (if you receive benefits)
- £274 for insulation
from 0-250mm (before council tax credit)
- £299 for top up 100mm
or less of existing insulation (council tax credit does
not apply).
- Slightly lower prices apply to existing
British Gas customers.
Additional costs (about £40) may arise
in the small number of houses where there is insufficient
ventilation in the loft and there is a possibility of condensation
problems new vents may be needed to provide sufficient ventilation.
Additional costs may also arise in houses that are unusually
large for their type.

Home Suitability Checklist
Do you need your loft for storage?
Once installed it is not possible to use
the loft for storage: the insulation is laid across the joists
to prevent cold spots.
Do you have a cold water tank in the
loft?
If yes, this will have to be insulated.
This is because loft insulation keeps the heat in your house,
and there will be a chance that the tank and pipes will freeze.
The insulation of the tanks and pipes will be included as part of the installation and there will be no additional charge for this service.
Do you have access to your loft?
If no, this is not necessarily a problem.
Installers can install a new loft hatch for about £120
extra.

Other Considerations
How long will it take?
2/3 hours for a typical house. You will
need to be there to provide access.
Will it make a mess?
No. Access has to be through the property
but nothing is unwrapped until it is in the loft.
Is it itchy?
Yes – if directly handled. For glassfibre
wool we recommend appropriate clothing (overalls, gloves,
mask, goggles) when handling. If undisturbed, the material
does not cause problems with stored items nearby.
Guarantees and installer accreditation?
The installers provide a 1 year guarantee
on works, and all installers are members of the National Insulation
Association (NIA).
